Ingredients

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

FOR THE FROSTING

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the maple syrup and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chopped walnuts.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  9. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in maple syrup and vanilla extract until well combined.
  10. Once the cake is completely cool, frost the top and sides with the cream cheese frosting. Decorate with additional walnut pieces if desired.

Notes

Tip: For a festive touch, drizzle extra maple syrup over the frosted cake before serving.

For an extra layer of flavor, try toasting the walnuts before adding them to the batter. This will enhance their nuttiness and add a lovely crunch.

If you prefer a lighter version, you can substitute half of the cream cheese in the frosting with Greek yogurt for a tangy twist. Store any leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
