Ingredients

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup roasted hazelnuts, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in the hazelnut spread until well combined.
  8. Once the cakes are cooled, place one layer on a serving platter and spread half of the hazelnut cream over the top.
  9. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the hazelnut cream, followed by a sprinkle of chopped hazelnuts.
  10. Top with the second layer of cake and repeat the process with the remaining hazelnut cream, caramel sauce, and hazelnuts.
  11. Slice and serve the cake, enjoying the beautiful layers and rich flavors.

Notes

Tip: For a beautiful presentation, drizzle additional caramel sauce over the top of the cake before serving.

For an even richer flavor, consider toasting your hazelnuts before incorporating them into the frosting. If you’re short on time, you can use store-bought caramel sauce for convenience.

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Allow the cake to come to room temperature before serving for the best taste and texture.
