Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
- 1 pre-made tart crust
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 large egg yolks
- Cinnamon sticks and star anise for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the pre-made tart crust in a tart pan and bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden. Let it cool.
- In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, whole milk, and sugar over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and the mixture is warm.
- In a bowl, whisk together cornstarch, vanilla extract, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, black pepper, salt, and egg yolks until smooth.
- Slowly pour the warm cream mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until it thickens and begins to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour the filling into the cooled tart crust and smooth the top. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
- While the tart is chilling, whip the remaining heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add a pinch of cinnamon and sugar to taste, then whisk until fully combined.
- Once the tart is set, top with the spiced whipped cream and garnish with cinnamon sticks and star anise before serving.
Notes
Tip: Chill the tart for at least two hours before serving for the best texture and flavor.
For a gluten-free option, use a gluten-free tart crust. You can also substitute the heavy cream with coconut cream for a dairy-free version.
Make sure to chill the tart for at least two hours before serving to allow the filling to set properly. The tart can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but it’s best enjoyed fresh!
