Ingredients

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh turmeric, grated
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tablespoons honey or agave syrup
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (to activate turmeric)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Boil 2 cups of water in a small saucepan.
  2. Once boiling, add the grated turmeric and ginger. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let it steep for 10 minutes to enhance the flavor.
  4. Strain the mixture into a pitcher, discarding the solids, and stir in honey (or agave) and lime juice.
  5. Add the coconut water and black pepper, mixing well. Chill in the fridge or serve warm. Pour over ice in glasses to serve.

Notes

Storage: Keep any leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat or serve cold as preferred.

When preparing this tonic, feel free to adjust the sweetness to your liking—honey or agave syrup work great as natural sweeteners. If you’re looking for a spicier kick, add more ginger or a pinch of cayenne pepper.

This tonic can be made in larger batches and refrigerated for a couple of days. Serve it chilled over ice for a refreshing drink, or warm it up slightly for a soothing beverage on colder days.
