Fall is the perfect season for a delicious dessert, and this Rustic Cinnamon-Maple Pear Galette is a delightful way to celebrate the season’s bounty. With tender, caramelized pears wrapped in a flaky, buttery crust, it’s a show-stopper that’s easy to make.
The combination of cinnamon and maple syrup enhances the natural sweetness of the pears, creating a warm, comforting flavor profile. This galette is not only visually stunning but also allows for a lovely rustic presentation, making it ideal for gatherings or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, diced
- 4-5 tablespoons ice water
- 3 medium ripe pears, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cold butter and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In another bowl, toss the sliced pears with maple syrup, cinnamon, and lemon juice until well-coated.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer it to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Arrange the pear mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges of the dough over the pears, pleating as necessary to create a rustic look.
- Brush the crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with additional sugar, if desired.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the pears are tender. Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
Note: For a caramelized finish, sprinkle a little brown sugar over the pears before baking.
For the best texture, chill the dough before rolling it out, and ensure your butter is cold. You can also experiment with different types of pears, like Bosc or Anjou, for varying flavors and textures.
To store leftovers, keep the galette in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to restore the crust’s crispiness. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat!
