Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
- 4 cups water
- 4 chai tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose leaf chai tea)
- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint sprigs for garnish (optional)
- Cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Boil 4 cups of water in a saucepan.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and add the chai tea bags or loose leaf tea. Steep for about 10 minutes.
- Add the sugar and cinnamon stick to the hot tea, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Add the fresh mint leaves to the tea and let it steep for an additional 5 minutes.
- Strain the tea into a pitcher, discarding the tea bags and cinnamon stick. Allow the tea to cool to room temperature.
- Once cooled, refrigerate the tea until chilled, about 1 hour.
- Serve the chilled tea over ice and garnish with fresh mint sprigs and additional cinnamon sticks if desired.
Notes
Note: For a caffeine-free version, use herbal chai tea or rooibos tea instead of traditional chai.
For a sweeter version, feel free to add a splash of honey or agave syrup when serving. If you’re short on time, use chai tea bags instead of brewing loose leaf tea, but remember to steep them according to package instructions for the best flavor.
To make this drink even more special, you can garnish with fresh mint sprigs or a cinnamon stick when serving. It’s also a great base for cocktails—add a splash of your favorite spirit for an adult twist!
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Re-stir before serving as the mint may settle at the bottom.
